HCPL trucks to use green fuel

Posted on: 01/Aug/2015 6:43:11 PM
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has made a move towards the use of green fuel and has launched the use of bio diesel for its own trucks. About 5 per cent of bio diesel blended with regular diesel will be used by the oil major. According to company sources, diesel engines do not need any modification done for the use of bio diesel for up to 20 percent and for higher percentage blends, just minor modifications are needed.
Blended diesel will be used in seven fuel carrying trucks at Athipet terminal in north Chennai.

The price of bio diesel per litre is Rs 50. Bio diesel is manufactured from vegetable oils and animal fats. The green fuel is procured from private companies located in Nagpur, Kakinada, among others.

A substantial reduction in un-burnt hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and other elements can be achieved through the use of bio diesel. It contains no sulphur, no aromatics and has 10 percent of built-in oxygen that boosts combustion.
