One of the most common reasons for people to consult a doctor is neck and back pain. Adults of the age 40 to 60 are mostly prone to such pain. If the pain is prolonging, getting spread down your arms and tingling numbness, you may choose to consult a medical practitioner. Here are few myths about neck and back pain and a little discussion on each of these for your better understanding:

Be under complete bed rest – this is most commonly advised. Though it may suite acute sufferers who have pain lasting for few days up to 3 weeks, bed rest for more than 2 days is not recommended. Those with chronic pain cannot get any relief out of long term bed rest, and it in fact prolongs the pain

No bending forward – as you avoid bending or doing other physical activities, you tend to increase the disability caused due to your back pain. If you have pain, you are verily free to bend and pick objects and do your works the way you usually do

Pillow, no please – those who sleep on their sides will use a pillow to support their neck. This should be avoided as it can further increase the pai on your neck by twisting it in the opposite direction
