Study: Green tea can prevent men from prostate cancer

According to new study reports, it is found that components contained in green tea are helpful in reducing the growth and development of prostate cancer that occurs in men, which has severe risky factors.
 
The research was led by Nagi B. Kumar, Ph.D., R.D., F.A.D.A. at Moffitt Cancer Center. The study involved assessing the effectiveness and safety factors of the components present in green tea which is called "catechins" in preventing prostate cancer in men who have got premalignant lesions.
 
It is in Asian countries that 20 per cent of green tea is consumed. In these countries, the occurrence prostate cancer is told to have raised.

According to these study reports, catechins help inhibit the growth of cancer cells, its motility, and induce death of cancer cells. It also prevents and greatly reduces growth of tumor in animal models.
 
In green tea, Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is found in high proportion and catechin take the responsibility of inhibiting effects of cancer. The results of the study were published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research.
