Cannes winner’s link with Chennai

Wide Angle Creations a Chennai based production company has produced Kamal starrer ‘Paapanasam’. The company has played a key role in the making of Dheepan that won Palm D’ or at the Cannes film festival.
The shoot of the film took place in seven to eight parts of Mandappam and Ooty and other places of Tamil Nadu between December and January involving several technicians and junior artists.
One of the partners of the company, Suresh Balaje says he did not expect such a huge prize for he film. Jacques Audiard has elevated the range of the film and this create a wonderful reception from the press. However, honestly, the film was not expected to win any title. We are all on cloud nine for this victory with the selection in competition.
He added that except camerawoman Jacques Audiard, the art director, the entire crew were all locals. The set included many junior artists. In fact the technical crew had very few people from France. The crew was very small and include locals as technicians, he points.
