India remains a male dominated society in terms of usage of internet. Reports from Google on the usage of technology and Internet among Indian women say that about 49 per cent of them got no reason to access internet at all. Over 70 per cent of internet users are male. These are findings from ‘Women and Technology’, a report from Google. This included interviewing of 828 women belonging to the age between 8 and 55. As per the statistics given by the report, it is found that only 30 per cent of internet users are women.

It is also found that women refrain from the use of internet owing to privacy issues while surfing. In fact, married women also admit they are scared that their in-laws might get furious on knowing they use internet.

Most of the women even said they will access internet and computers more if they are provided with separate computer or smartphone.

·         Time constraint

·         Issues with connectivity

·         Affordability

Above are three other reasons they say for lesser or no use of internet. Furthermore, Google also discovered that those who surf through the web were more self-dependent and made higher money compared to those who never do. Most of the internet using women remained single, young or college going students.
