‘Agni Nakshatram’ or ‘karhiti veyil’ from today till 29th May: Oppressive heat expected!

It is informed that the oppressive heat experience in Tamil Nadu will further intensify.

‘Kathiri veyil’, the most oppressive part of the summer, starts from today (Monday, 4th May) and will last till 29th May!

Generally, kathiri veyil starts during the 1st week of May. This year, it is starting on 4th May and will last for 26 days.

It is possible that the temperature may touch 43.5 Degrees Celsius or even more!

Unlike the last few years, there were widespread rains in April this year and this has helped reduce the intensity of heat.

However, oppressive weather persisted in districts like Trichy, Vellore, Madurai, and Salem.

Last year, Chennai recorded the maximum temperature in the month of May. Chennai with 42.8 Degrees was followed by Vellore (42.4), Trichy (40.6), and Salem (40).

45 degrees Celsius, recorded in Chennai during 2003, is the highest ever temperature recorded in May.

Tamil Nadu experiences the peak of Summer during the month of May.

Tamil Nadu Astronomers’ Association President Mr. D Vijayakumar explained there are imaginary lines traversing the earth as per Geography. Tropic of Cancer is located in the North. Tropic of Capricorn is located in South.

Sun reaches Trpoic of Capricorn on 21st December every year. Chennai is located 13.5 Degrees North of the Tropic of Capricorn and Sun requires 143 days to near Chennai.
Hence, it is expected that Sun’s direct rays will fall on Chennai on 13th May. This is the reason for the oppressively hot weather from 2nd week of May.

Better avoid celebrating positive occasions during kathiri veyil!

Astrologers , while dwelling on kathiri veyil, explained that as per astrology, the movement period of Sun from the Zodiac sign of Aries to the Zodiac sign of Taurus is known as ‘kathiri veyil’ or ‘Agni Nakshatram’. It is better to avoid performing all positive occasions I the family during this period.

How to get relief from the oppressive heat?

Doctors advised frequent drinking of water. It is better to take water-rich vegetables & fruits like cucumber & water-melon. It is better to avoid spicy food.

It is better to keep a check on the quantity of intake of non-vegetarian food.

It is better to apply ‘sun mask’ while moving out in the sun.

Those who do not use creams can cover their faces with white kerchief or cloth bit.

As soon as returning home, it is better to wash hands. Legs, and face thoroughly. This will definitely help prevent the harms caused by the oppressive heat.
