Cement rates in Chennai gives a jolt to Chennaites

Chennaites and builders are shocked seeing the price of cement. At a time when cement is sold at 260 per bag of 50kg across northern and western parts of India, the price of cement in Chennai has touched a new high of Rs. 400 for a bag. Dealers say once increased freight rate for coal and hike in excise duty on cement announced in the Railway and the Union budgets come into effect, prices would go up further. It is understood that the reason for the hike is attributed to cement manufacturers.
