Traffic diversions in Kodambakkam Overbridge route for renovation work!

Posted on: 20/Dec/2014 3:26:32 PM
Traffic diversions have been made in the Kodambakkam overbridge route to enable completion of the renovation work.

Public have registered their grievance as the project is getting continuously delayed as the vehicle drivers are put to great hardships.

Kodambakkam overbridge serves to link Vadapalani to Anna Salai & Parry’s. It was built in 1965. 1000s of vehicles pass through the overbridge every day.

Renovation work was taken up by Chennai Corporation to strengthen the bridge as it is 50 years’ old. This was started last year. The second phase of the renovation is currently in progress forcing traffic diversions.

Only light duty vehicles are allowed to use the overbridge moving from Vadapalani to Valluvar Kottam.

Heavy vehicles have to move on the road left of the overbridge via Kodambakkam Station Road, crossing Rangarajapuram Overbridge and  move on the left side.

No vehicle coming from Valuvar Kottam is allowed to go on the overbridge.

Vehicles proceeding from Valluvarkottam to Kodambakkam will have to travel through Thirumalai Pillai Road, Basulla Road, Rangrajapuram overbridge, and then via Liberty theatre Road to reach Kodambakkam.

Public protest that this traffic diversion consumes extra time and causes heavy traffic congestion thus leading to great hardships.

Corporation officials inform that the delay in completion is mainly due to change of contractors and shortage of time. The work is nearing completion now and the overbridge will be ready before the end of December.
