Rs104 Crore fine collected for mobile connections without proper documents

Posted on: 17/Dec/2014 5:53:38 PM
Telecommunications Ministry has announced that for the security of the country it is important to issue mobile connections only when the correct photo identity cards and address proofs are submitted. In spite of such orders, it has been a habit of most mobile companies to grant connections without the required documents. Even big companies like Aircel, Vodafone and BSNL utter this mistake and pay heavy fines every year. In 2007, the fine collected for issuing mobile connections without documents was Rs 7 crores whereas in 2014 it is Rs 104 crores.

Mobile industries complain of the stringent orders of the Tele communications department that they are facing practical problems while implementing and follow the orders. In addition, it is also important to curtail the sim card sales through petty shop dealers. However, social activists feel that it is important to obey the Tele communications department to safe guard the security of our nation.
