80th All India Railway Athletic Championships in Chennai

The Southern Railway Sports Association (SRSA) has been given the unique honour of hosting the 80th All India Railway Athletic Championships at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai for the 6th time. The championships will be held from 01st to 03rd September, 2014.
The championships assume significance in view of the fact that the current Asian Games and Commonwealth Games medalists and leading athletes from all over Indian Railways such as Tintu Luka, Preeja Sridharan, Joseph Abraham, Ranjith Maheswari, Sharada Narayna, L. Surya, Sajeesh Joseph, V.N. Surekha, Nikhil Chitrarasu and L. Yogaraj from Southern Railway, Kavitha Poonia (Central Railway), Harishankar Roy (Eastern Railway) and O.P. Jaisha (Northern Railway) will be seen in action during the meet.
Around 600 athletes / officials will be taking part in the three day championships and 23 Zonal Railways / Production Units will vie for the top honours. The event also will serve as a platform for selection of the Indian Railway Team which will be competing in the Senior National Athletic Championship.
Shri S. Vijayakumaran, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway will inaugurate the meet at 14.00 hrs. on 01stSeptember, 2014.
Shri Rakesh Misra, General Manager, Southern Railway has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony on 03rd September, 2014 and will distribute the prizes at 15.15 hrs.
