Restriction of 1 cooking gas LPG cylinder per month withdrawn

Central Cabinet Ministers’ meeting approved the withdrawal of restriction of 1 LPG gas cylinder per month.

However, there is no compulsion to buy 1 cylinder per month. Only if required, an addition cylinder can be bought in a month.

The earlier government headed by Mr. Manmohan Singh restricted the number of gas cylinders to 9 per year, as subsidy is given to LPG gas cylinders for the public resulting in a hug financial burden for the government.

There was a public outcry against this measure and subsequently, the number of cylinders was restricted to 12 per year.

The new government has withdrawn this restriction. Now, the public can buy 2 cylinders within a month if required.

However, the total of 12 cylinders per month remains on subsidy. If there is any extra cylinder bought, subsidy will not be available.

The central minister, Mr. Ravishankar Prasad informed that the restriction was withdrawn because of the hardships faced by the public. There are occasions such as festival season when additional cylinders may be required. The public can now buy additional cylinder within a month.
