Tamil Nadu State Government to build 10 new hostels for backward sections

Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Minister S. Abdul Rahim informed the Assembly that ten new hostels for students of the backward sections pursuing professional courses will be established during the current year at a cost of Rs. 2.81 crore.
While five of them would be for the backward classes, three would be for most backward classes and one each for the de-notified community and minority community students.

He said the Department was maintaining 1,305 hostels, which accommodated 81,164 students without any fee. Additional dormitories would be constructed in 10 hostels at a cost of Rs. 4.50 crore. New buildings would be constructed for 10 college hostels that had been functioning in rented buildings.
