More than 23000 commuters travel without tickets in MTC buses

In the past five months, between 14th January and 14th June, it is found that nearly 23,322 people are caught owing to travel without ticket in MTC buses. A fine of nearly Rs 41,16,566 is collected from this huge population.

As a step to control such malpractices of travelling without tickets, inspections are done under the supervision of higher officials. This resulted in identification of 23,322 individuals in the city who travelled without ticket. This is said to be a very high number compared to previous years.

Excerpts from MTC department officials:

“We identified 4400 individuals during the 8 days vigorous inspection carried out in the city. We collected Rs 8,41,454 from them. Next to this, in the month of February, 3150 people were caught in the 7 days inspection program from which we collected fine of Rs 4,37,935. Similarly, in March, with the 8 day inspection program, we identified 3840 and got Rs 613889 as fine. This count increased to 3984 in April from which we received Rs 726310 as fine. It was Rs 7,07,407 in May and Rs 7,89,571 in June,” say officials.
