Sri Lankan Secret Supper in Chennai

Sri Lankan Secret Supper, a one-night-only event at trendy is being organized at new gastropub Social on April 27. Expect crisp fish and vegetable patties. Squiggy red rice idiappams served with coconutty vegetable sodhi and spicy sambal. Old-fashioned chicken roasts and crunchy ladies finger fritters. The five-course tasting menu, which begins with spirulina-spiked pineapple jucie and ends with sweet cashewnut-flavoured chunks of dodol, will be cooked by experienced Sri Lankan Tamil cooks, who moved to India in the Eighties with little besides the recipes of their parents and grandparents.
In Social’s all-glass kitchen they will recreate home food, using organic, farm grown produce. The dinner, hosted by NGOs Asthtva Foundation, OfERR and SandeshReddy, is priced at Rs. 1,500 per head. All proceeds go towards charity — specifically towards supporting OfERR’s daycare centres for underprivileged children.
