Hair care tips for a thicker, healthier and smoother hair

For most women, it is hard to maintain the hair healthy. We remain doubtful about how to maintain it, keep it clean and tie it up the right way. Though it may seem tough, it is actually not. All it requires is a basic understanding of what it is and the series of necessary procedures to keep your strands neat. 

Below are some simple steps which when followed will help maintaining your hair healthy: 

Know how to shampoo your hair:

It is assumed that frequent hair wash with shampoo will leave it dry and leeches the natural oil in it. And yes it is, frequent shampooing will dry your hair. However, there is always a solution for any problem. Know how to choose the right product and youll have it right.

Use shampoos that do not have sulphates or prarbens. Sulphate helps in forming lather and Parabens are those that create irritation and eye problem upon prolonged usage.

 Pick the product that suits your hair type. Softening shampoo for coarse hair, gentle shampoo for a straight and oily hair, shampoo containing amino acids for colored or treated hair, and shampoo containing collagen and glycerin for dry hair are most commonly recommended.

Regular trimming will help:

Split ends are among the major problems faced with hair. This can be best managed by trimming hair at regular time intervals. It is enough if trimming is done for quarter inch of hair at the end. Doing this for every 6 to 8 weeks will give good results.

Dont overdo brushing:

While brushing hair helps in promoting hair growth by stimulating follicles, overdoing the same will damage the stands of hair and leaves it frizzy.

Hair conditioning:

Those having dry hair should certainly concentrate more on conditioning it. For everyone, it is necessary to condition the hair once in a week either a readymade product or natural one would be enough. Use the conditioner only for two to three minutes on the hair.

  • Getting treated with botanical oil treatment prior to conditioning will help limp hair. This can be done using lavender or tea-tree oil.
  • For medium or thick hair, light conditioner light will suit.
  • Avoid choosing conditioner with more protein content.

Follow a natural way to dry your hair:

One most common mistake that everyone do is with how they dry their hair. While most of them are cautious about the harmful effects of using hair dryers, they fail to know that using regular towels are harmful too. When towels are used, it roughens the hair and leaves hair damaged. Alternatively, soft t-shirts can be wrapped over the hair after hair wash. And, it is also good to use combs that are wide toothed. This will help in untangling the knots and similar stuffs easily. In case of a night hair wash, put a bun and rest it while sleeping. By doing so, you should find it dry by the next day morning. 

A few more useful tips:

  • Get into a practice of head massage. It helps increase blood flow in the scalp and boosts overall hair growth.  
  • Soften your hair by deep conditioning. It also nourishes your hair and maintains moisture level.
  • Use cold water to rinse your hair during every hair wash. It gives a shining look.
  • Apply oil before every hair wash. Do this before one hour of hair wash on the previous night
  • Avoid blow drying
  • Never rub your hair vigorously when you want to dry your hair using a cloth.
