So as to receive more electricity power in Chennai, TamilNadu Transmission Corporation has planned to establish four new high dynamic sub-stations in the upcoming years.

As of now, the sub-stations adjoining the city has the capacity to yield 3,000 megawatt (MW) which is about one fourth of total State’s need of 12,000 MW. It is anticipated that, this figure may go up in the upcoming years.

This Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-aided project, as part of its work will pave the sub-stations in the areas including Korattur, Sholinganallur, Guindy and Manali.

Of the total estimation of the project ranging Rs.5, 000 Crores, a part of about Rs.3, 500 Crore will be assisted by the JICA, and the remnants will be handled by the Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation, a senior official says.

As per the plan, each substation will be commissioned by the year 2017 and each station will guarantee for 400 KV (kilovolt) capacities. Hence it may help in stabilizing the grid operation along with the surplus flow of electricity to the main stations.

Currently, power sub-stations have been located in the suburbs of the city namely Kalivandapattu, Sunguvar Chatram, Sriperumpudur and Sunguvar Chatram.

As a fraction of the JICA agenda, one more 400-KV capacity substation will soon arrive at Karamadai, on the bounds of Coimbatore.
